| "Entrant" | The person who submits the entry for the DFA Award.

| "Nominator" | The person who nominates a design for the DFA Award. The nominator can either be a member of professional design association, a faculty member (apparel and accessories design, communication design, interior/spatial design and product design) of an educational institution or media.

| "Company" | The owner of the design or the brand owner.
|
| "Designer" | The designer of an entry can either be an in-house designer of the company, or a freelance designer, or design consultancy developing the design for the company.

| "Design Category" | The classification of the entries. There are four design categories, namely apparel and accessories design, communication design, interior/spatial design and product design. Each entry/design should be categorised under one of these design categories. The Design Category is only a classification system and all entries will be assessed together with the best designs winning the Grand Award of the DFA Award.

| "First Round Screening" | The First Round Screening will select the finalists to move forward to the Final Selection. The First Round Screening will focus on the design's excellence and its impact and influence on Asian lifestyles. All entries that have met the entry criteria will be assessed in the First Round Screening.

| "Finalist" | The Finalist is the entry recommended to go into the Final Selection by the First Round Judging Panel.
|
| "Final Selection" | The Final Selection is the concluding assessment of the finalists. The international Final Selection Judging Panel will select the winning designs for the DFA Grand Award, the Best Design from DFA Greater China and the DFA Special Merit Prize in the Final Selection process.
